Oddly enough we can’t remember exactly whom introduced us, but we are grateful for the connection.

Since leaving TX and starting a completely different discipline, I was looking for a community.

It’s been a minute. Ok it’s been 7 1/2 weeks since our last post. And let me tell you, it’s been liberating!!! Omicron stopped our Dressember challenge dead in its tracks and turned into 2 weeks of pajamas instead. And from there, it was just a heavy landslide into 2022 where everything felt wrong. Tbh, it’s been a struggle to motivate. Fashion was uninspiring. People are stressed AF. And IG felt even more burdensome than usual. So we stopped. Stopped getting dressed. Stopped caring about an algorithm. Started looking for meaning again. Craving reality. Not sure if we’ve found what we’re looking for. But one takeaway is that we’re no longer letting this platform run our lives. We’ll post when it feels meaningful to post. We’ll engage when we find it meaningful to engage. It’s 2022 and there is no time for BS. That’s our rant. And also, I got dressed today. 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼

Incredibly honored to speak yesterday at the @southbaycares “New 2 U” preloved clothing sale.

I love having these opportunities to educate people on why clothing waste is so detrimental (swipe to see) and how we have so many alternatives like renting and buying secondhand.
.
Even more heartwarming was my 5 year old daughter listening in the audience and then afterwards repeating how we need to keep wearing our clothes. She has grown up only ever wearing preloved items and found more pieces to add to her closet!
.
Takeaway message is that we can all make more conscious choices when it comes to our clothes. What are you doing to make a difference?

Sometimes clients question the idea of renting because they ask “isn’t it more valuable to just buy it and own it?”
.
Well let’s think about that. The answer depends on how much/ how long you will wear it. Cost per wear is a term we use to calculate “value”. Decide how much an item costs by the number of times you wear it. So a pair of $400 sneakers that you wear 5 times a week? Ends up being pennies per wear after a year. But maybe a $50 fast fashion dress you wear once doesn’t seem as valuable at the end of the day.

Also, how many of you have tried reselling your clothes? Have you ever been shocked, appalled, and maybe even offended by how much a resale store is willing to pay you for your pre loved items? Is it even 10% of what you paid?
.
The lesson is to be conscious of our purchases. Buy clothes you will get longevity out of. Rent the short term items. It makes sense for the earth. And it makes sense for your wallet.

I met @shayzon through a mutual friend @classiejenkins and we bonded immediately over our love for sustainable fashion- especially vintage and upcycled looks. She is an extremely gifted seamstress and her feed is poppin with all of her creations!

On the day we recorded this podcast, smoke alarms randomly went off for half an hour, causing major chaos and a delay in our chat but Shayzon was super chill as I dealt with screaming kids and firefighters but we still managed to get it done and have a great time.

Sweat shops exist right here in LA. Cheap clothes are not just bad for our environment like our other post today showed. They are also bad for workers and come at a cost of Fair wages for workers. There is no way to justify $5 clothing. If we insist our clothes are as cheap as trash then they might as well be trash. We all deserve better.
